How Members Will

       Benefit from Merger (back)

How will I benefit from this merger?      When this merger is complete, we will have a stronger voice at the bargaining table, which will translate into improved contracts and increased benefits for our members. Voting yes on the merger sends our employers the clear message that we are more unified than ever.

Why is bigger better? Employers have been consolidating. In response to this challenge, the UFCW encourages the consolidation of our forces to increase the bargaining power of workers. This merger is a crucial element in our work to build size and strength.

How large will the new Union be?                          We’ll be the strongest, most powerful UFCW affiliate in the Western United States, with more than 30,000 members.

Will the merger affect my contract now?          All existing contracts and conditions will continue as agreed upon in your current contract.

Will my dues change? No one’s dues will change as a result of this merger.

Will my health care, pension or seniority change?                                 Your medical benefits, pension and seniority will be as agreed to under your current contract.

How will the merger affect the next round of negotiations?                      The primary objective of the merger is to improve our bargaining power in upcoming negotiations. We will have a strong, clear, unified voice at the bargaining table. This will reap great benefits.

How will the merger affect the Union’s political clout?               Both local unions have led the way in improving the lives of working people. UFCW 8 will be even stronger and more influential in our work with elected officials as we continue the fight to raise the standards of all working people in California.
